Professional Window Washing Tools
Cleaning windows without leaving marks and streaks is hard to do without the right tools---the kind professional window washers use. Knowing what these tools are and learning about how they should be used can help you keep your windows looking like they were cleaned by a pro.
-
Squeegee
-
The squeegee is the most important window-cleaning tool. A squeegee should be between 10 to 18 inches wide depending on the size of the window that needs to be cleaned. A professional squeegee is made of either quality brass or stainless steel. Unlike regular squeegees, professional squeegees have replaceable rubber blades that slide into a brass channel and are held firmly in place by brass clamps. This keeps the blade from moving around while cleaning. An extension pole that attaches to the squeegee can be used for parts of the window that are hard to reach.

Large Bucket
-
A large, plastic bucket with a sturdy handle is essential for cleaning windows. The bucket should be filled with cool or lukewarm water and a little dish-washing soap. A bucket with a spout is ideal as you may need to empty it out and refill it frequently as the water gets dirty and needs replacing.
Applicator Scrubber and Scraper
-
Applicator scrubbers are made of various materials. Professional applicator scrubbers are usually made of high-quality lamb's wool or a medium-nap fleece. Some professionals also use a tile grout sponge or a natural sponge. The applicator scrubber is dipped in the water and used to wet the window and remove dirt. A scraper is used to remove stubborn dirt and is only used on wet windows as it can leave scratches if used on a dry window.
Microfiber Cloths
-
Compared to regular cloths, microfiber cloths leave no lint on windows. That's why professional cleaners use microfiber cloths when drying windows. These cloths are soft and durable and come in various sizes. A dry microfiber cloth is also used to soak excess water from the edges of windows.
Tool Belt
-
Most professionals use a tool belt made of nylon that's made especially to hold window-washing tools. Professional tool belts are adjustable and give professional window cleaners easy access to all the tools they need for washing windows. With a tool belt, you can work more productively and safely as all the tools you need are within reach and not left lying around on the ground where you can trip over them.
