Requirements
-
Since different types and levels of certifications are offered, differing requirements are set. Usually, these requirements are not related to educational qualifications or age. The requirements are fixed based on the level of certification sought, and are hierarchical, which means that if you want to get advanced certification, you must first have all of the more basic certifications. The most important requirement is to pass a test conducted by Microsoft that tests your knowledge, skills and abilities of the topic.

Basic Certification
-
Microsoft Business Certification is offered at two levels: Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) and Microsoft Office Specialist. The Certified Application Specialist is the base credential, so it becomes a requirement for the MOS credential. To become an MCAS, you must pass three required exams: Word Expert, Excel Expert and Power Point Expert. You can also pass two additional elective exams on Access and Outlook. To pass the exams, you must demonstrate proficiency in the programs.
Specialist
-
Specialized Microsoft certifications are available for people in specific job roles or with a need for advanced certification. These certifications are classified as specialist series, professional series, master series and architect series. Specialist series certification is a prerequisite to the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) credential. To earn this certification, you must have at least one year of experience in implementing, debugging or troubleshooting any major Microsoft technology.
The Professional Series is offered in two forms, Microsoft certified IT professional and Microsoft certified professional developer. To obtain either of these certifications, you must pass a minimum of one to three exams. You must also be a professional in the industry for at least two years. An MCPD certification requires two to three years of experience.
Architect Series
-
Architect series certification is the most advanced Microsoft certification. People with this certification are considered industry experts. These certifications are offered in MCA technology programs, MCA infrastructure programs and MCA solutions programs. The general requirements are 10 years of IT experience and five years of specific architectural experience and a relevant Microsoft certified master certification.
Benefits
-
Certification helps you to enhance working skills and validates your skill sets. Certification is an ongoing process that many organizations sponsor so employees are equipped with the latest technical skills. MCP offers affiliation with a global network of professionals.
