What Is Canesten Good For?
Canesten is a topical medication that is used for the treatment of various kinds of fungal infections (both dermatological and gynecological). It comes in three different forms: lotion, cream and solution (which comes as a pump spray). Some of the ailments that Canesten can address include sweat rash, vaginal yeast infection and athlete's foot.
-
Sweat Rash
-
Canesten can treat the very common fungal infection known as sweat rash. This infection results from a naturally occurring yeast on the skin that is called candida. This type of infection is characterized by a red rash on the skin that is both itchy and irritating. Sweat rash generally appears on body parts such as the groin, behind the knees, underneath the breasts and on the underarms.
-
Vaginal Yeast Infection
-
This topical medication is also beneficial at treating vaginal yeast infections, which are also caused by candida. These infections happen when the vaginal's healthy and natural pH balance is disrupted. When this disruption occurs, the amounts of candida increase. One of the main signs of a vaginal yeast infection is extreme itchiness.
Athlete's Foot
-
Athlete's foot is another infection that can be helped by use of Canesten. It is a persistent, irritating and yet common condition. It generally appears on the foot's soles, around the feet and in between the toes. The most telling sign of this condition is severe itchiness of the feet. Also, a bacterial infection could occur with athlete's foot, which could cause bad foot odor.
Usage
-
When applying this topical medication, whether it is the cream, spray or lotion form, apply exactly the dosage amount as directed by your doctor. Generally (for both adults and children), this medication is used twice a day. Canesten must be used for the full period of treatment, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Side Effects
-
With use of Canesten, some side effects are possible. These include peeling, itching, burning, hives, rash on the skin, swelling and redness. If you notice any of these side effects (as well as any other signs of possible irritation of the skin), you need to consult your doctor as soon as possible.
