Should Tanning Oil Be Used in a Tanning Booth?

As the popularity of tanning booths increase, so does the popularity of tanning oil. There are numerous brands and types of tanning oils and lotions that help to achieve various desired looks. These lotions help to speed the tanning process, moisturize the skin, and help protect from the harmful UV rays that can be found in tanning beds. Although not all tanning oils all created equal, the oils that are specifically made for indoor purposes should be used in tanning booths and aid in more quickly achieving the desired look. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Accelerator Tanning Lotions

    • The accelerator tanning lotions help to keep skin hydrated before and after tanning in a tanning booth. By keeping the skin hydrated, this lotion helps to increase a person's ability to tan and can even increase the length of the tan. These lotions can be used along with other types of tanning oils. These lotions should be used in tanning booths, as they provide extra hydration to the skin and help protect the skin from the UV rays of tanning booths.

    Bronzing Tanning Lotions

    • Bronzing tanning lotions temporarily dye the skin. Sun-less (or UV-free) bronzing tanning lotions and bronzing lotions are available that can be used in a tanning booth. Bronzing tanning lotions vary in strength and are among the most popular types of tanning lotions. Although bronzing tanning lotions are safe to use, they may leave the skin's coloring temporarily uneven.

    Outdoor Tanning Lotions

    • Tanning oils and lotions can be outdoor or indoor lotions. It's not typically recommended to use lotions and oils that are marketed for the outdoors while in a tanning booth, because they can potentially damage the beds. It's also not recommended to use indoor tanning lotions while tanning outdoors.

    Tingle Tanning Lotions

    • Tingle lotions bring blood to the surface of the skin and help to increase oxygen to the skin. These lotions cause a temporary "tingling" sensation and may result in red spots on the skin in the minutes following application. The consumer may feel added "heat" on her skin after applying the tingle tanning lotion.

    Side Effects of Tanning Oils

    • Tanning oils and lotions have many beneficial properties and indoor tanning oils are recommended for use in tanning booths, but they are not infallible. Not all oils and lotions contain the same ingredients, and different people may have different reactions (sometimes negative) to the oils depending on the type. No oil completely protects from UV rays.
