Different Makes of iPod
Since releasing the first iPod in 2001, Apple has been a leader in the world of digital music players--from the earliest models that did little more than play music to the most recent models that play music, videos, games and surf the web. While the design of iPods have changed over time, the idea behind them--a compact, portable player to take your entertainment with you--has remained the same.

IPod Classic
-
IPod Classic Since it was first released in 2001, the iPod has gone by a number of names--iPod, iPod Photo, iPod Video and, with the release of the sixth-generation model in 2007, the iPod Classic. As of October 2009, the iPod Classic has the highest capacity of all iPods with 160GB, which can hold up to 40,000 songs, 200 hours of video or 25,000 photos. As of October 2009, the 160GB iPod Classic has a retail price of $249.

IPod Mini
-
IPod Mini The iPod Mini was released in 2004 as a smaller and less expensive alternative to the original iPod. The iPod Mini had a smaller storage capacity--2GB, 4GB and 6GB, which held up to 500, 1,000 and 1,500 songs, respectively. The iPod Mini had a black and white screen so it didn't play videos or display photos. The iPod Mini's run came to an end in 2005, when Apple introduced a color screen and replaced it with the iPod Nano.
IPod Nano
-
IPod Nano The iPod Nano shares a lot of the same characteristics as the iPod Classic--playing music and videos and displaying photos--in a much smaller package. Measuring in at 3.6 inches high, 1.5 inches wide, .24 inches deep and weighing just .24 ounces, the iPod Nano still has a 2.2-inch diagonal screen for viewing photos and videos and has a video camera built into it. As of October 2009, the iPod Nano is available in two storage sizes--8GB and 16GB, which can store up to 2,000 and 4,000 songs and 8 or 16 hours of video, respectively. The 8GB has a 2009 retail price of $149 and the 16GB model sells for $199.
IPod Shuffle
-
IPod Shuffle The iPod Shuffle is Apple's smallest iPod in both size and storage capacity. At just 1.8 inches high, .7 inches wide, .3 inches deep and weighing just .38 ounces, the iPod Shuffle is too small for a display screen, so it doesn't have the ability to play videos or display photos. The iPod Shuffle is available in two storage sizes--2GB and 4GB, which can hold up to 500 and 1,000 songs, respectively. As of October 2009, the iPod Shuffle is available in silver, black, blue, green and pink and carries a retail price of $59 for the 2GB model and $79 for the 4GB model. Apple also sells a polished stainless steel version of the 4GB model for $99 exclusively through the Apple Store.
IPod Touch
-
IPod Touch The most advanced iPod to date, the iPod Touch incorporates all of the features of other iPods--music, video and photos--and expands on them. In addition to its basic features, the iPod Touch also has a built-in Wi-Fi connection, allowing you to connect to the Internet while you're in Wi-Fi hotspots. As of October 2009, the iPod Touch is available in three storage sizes--8GB, 32GB and 64GB, which store up to 1,750, 7,000 and 14,000 songs or up to 10, 40 and 80 hours of video, respectively.
