What is Celestone Used For?

Celestone is the brand name of a prescription medication. The generic name of the medicine is betamethasone. It is used to treat an array of different medical conditions including v respiratory disorders, allergic disorders, arthritis, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, lupus, and some skin-related conditions. It functions by preventing substances in the body that result in inflammation from being released.

Uses

  • Celestone is classified as a corticosteroid. It is mostly used for the treatment of skin conditions, chronic asthma, allergies and arthritis. This medication is intended solely to be taken under the guidance of a physician.

Other Uses

  • Celestone is beneficial in decreasing acute inflammation that is caused by some skin diseases. Other uses of Celestone include treating mouth sores, ulcers, deep wounds or injuries. In these situations, Celestone reduces inflammation and protects the wounded skin from developing any further injury or damage.

Caution

  • Celestone is not appropriate or safe for everybody. This is particularly important for those that have fungal infections or allergies to betamethasone. You must inform your doctor of any medical conditions that you might have before taking Celestone, especially if you have or have had tuberculosis, kidney or liver disease, malaria, thyroid condition, cataracts, glaucoma, mental illness (such as depression), diabetes, osteoporosis, herpes infection (eyes), ulcerative colitis, stomach ulcers, diverticulitis, muscle conditions (like myasthenia gravis), hypertension and congestive heart failure.

Minor Side Effects

  • Using Celestone can lead to some minor side effects including sweating more, dry skin, thinning skin, skin discoloration, bruising, acne, changes in mood, insomnia, nausea, bloating, stomachache, wounds healing very slowly, dizziness, spinning sensation, headache and body fat changes.

Severe Side Effects

  • Severe side effects are also a possibility with Celestone. In these situations, it is important to get medical help. Severe effects include allergic reactions (such as trouble breathing, swelling, and hives), coughing up of blood, vision problems, tarry or bloody stools, extremely high blood pressure (with symptoms like seizures, shortness of breath, nervousness, uneven heartbeats, buzzing within the ears, disorientation, confusion, blurry vision, an extreme headache), low potassium (signs include uneven heart rate, being very thirsty, discomfort of the legs, the muscles being limp or weak, and urinating with more frequency), fast weight gain, suicidal feelings, extreme depression and pancreatitis (severe upper stomachache).
