Pauling Therapy for Clogged Arteries

Linus Pauling, a chemist who won the Nobel prize two times, created the Pauling Therapy. This therapy consists of replenishing the body's stores of vitamin C and lysine. This therapy is said to reverse heart disease.

  1. Symptoms

    • Heart disease is a condition in which the patient suffers a variety of symptoms related to the cardiovascular system. The arteries become narrowed and clogged. The result is that circulation of oxygen and blood to the heart is reduced and the heart works harder and harder to compensate for this reduction. This condition often results in fatigue, heart pain and shortness of breath and can ultimately lead to a heart attack.

    Pauling Theory

    • Linus Pauling's therapy is based on the theory that heart disease is the result of a vitamin C deficiency in the body along with the essential amino acid lysine. His theory rests on the use of vitamin C as an agent in the blood stream that dissolves buildup in the arteries, clearing them and restoring full function of the cardiovascular system.

    Ahead of Time

    • Pauling made his theory public in 1992. American Heart Association research supported his theory later in the decade as a better understanding of the heart disease was made known . Pauling developed his theory based on the assumption that heart disease acts in the body like chronic scurvy.

    Recommendations

    • The American Heart Association rejects the use of the vitamin C as a preventive for heart disease, while at the same time suggesting that the most healthy diet you can consume includes daily dosage levels of vitamin-C-rich foods. The Pauling Theory suggests that patients intentionally increase their intake of vitamin C and lysine. The two theories do not cancel each other out.

    Controversy

    • Most theories that challenge the medical status quo are squashed by the medical community. Often theories are absorbed and incorporated into modern medicine as a way to use their valuable benefits while not supporting their validity. Linus Pauling's theory of vitamin C as beneficial to heart-disease patients is an example of this.
