Max Factor Lipstick Ingredients

Max Factor is a popular makeup line, available at most drugstores for affordable prices. It is also a top pick among makeup artists, and the brand is especially well known for its lipsticks. Max Factor's lipstick line is called Lipfinity, and it claims to last through 12 hours of wear. It also comes with a moisturizing topcoat. The ingredients in this lipstick reveal the secret to its longevity: emollients, waxes and pigments. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Isododecane

    • Isododecane is used in many skin-care products and is, quite simply, an emollient. It helps the Max Factor lipstick to spread easily while maintaining its lightweight feel. It's also soluble with many other compounds, and is often used in eyeliner, lotions and conditioners.

    Trimethylsiloxysilicate

    • Trimethylsiloxysilicate is a derivative of silicone, which adds shine and conditions the lips. It also helps the product to adhere to your lips, making it last longer even if you lick your lips, eat, drink or kiss someone.

    Dimethicone

    • Also silcone based, Dimethicone is a polymer. It is a an extremely common ingredient in makeup products because it is hydrating, easily spreadable and creates a subtle gloss on the surface of the lips. It forms a protective barrier against the skin.

    Quaternium-18 Hectorite

    • Quaternium-18 Hectorite controls the viscosity of the lipstick. It is formed by mixing quaternary ammonium chloride salts, which react with clays. Despite the chemical connotations of its name, it has been deemed very safe for use in cosmetics by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

    Propylene Carbonate

    • This organic chemical is another viscosity-controlling ingredient. It helps other ingredients to blend together, creating a creamy finish that spreads evenly across the lips.

    Propylparaben

    • A part of the paraben family, or wax, propylparaben is added to lipsticks to preserve them. Without this ingredient, they can spoil over a shorter period of time.

    Other Max Factor Lipstick Ingredients

    • Depending on the formula and color, some Max Factor lipsticks contain mica, a mineral that adds sparkle to makeup products. Other ingredients can include titanium dioxide, an opacifier and sunscreen, and iron oxides, nontoxic powders that generate colors. Dyes, such as "red 30 lake" or "yellow 6 lake" are also added to achieve the desired hue.
