Ratings for the Perception Prodigy 12 Kayak

The Prodigy 12.0 Kayak is Perception's signature recreational kayak. Built around the Perception A hull design, this sweet boat is made to be stable, solid and forgiving with some nice features for every day paddling. It's easy to paddle in a straight line, but doesn't give you a hard time about turning, all the while providing a nice comfortable seat for fishing, bird watching and piddling around the lake.

  1. Zone Seating

    • Perception's Zone Seating system is two-way adjustable, allowing you slide forward and backward in the cockpit and adjust the angle of the seat back. The cockpit is large at 23.5 inches wide with room for ease of entry and egress. The 51-inch long cockpit opening makes it easier to store gear where you can get at it. Slide lock foot braces and inner and outer adjustable knee pad options improve paddler comfort in the Prodigy series. Throw in cup holder, raised interior combing for leg comfort, handy bungee paddle holder and a handy storage well behind you and you're set for a pleasant voyage.

    The Hull

    • The A series hull designs are very stable, durable and easy to glide and maneuver, making this design perfect for beginners or for paddlers looking for a leisurely afternoon paddle. The hull features molded flotation and a handy drain plug, double sealed watertight bulkheads and a dual density hatch cover for the stern storage compartment.

    Capacity

    • The Prodigy 12.0 is weight rated at a maximum of 350 pounds, good news for larger paddlers having trouble finding a kayak that won't sink under them. With a 15.25 inch deck height and lots of leg room, the Prodigy is very forgiving for larger paddlers or paddlers with a lot of gear. The one tested was the easiest one to get into of the seven tried.

    Portability

    • Weighing in at a mere 51 pounds, the Prodigy 12 is easy to carry. With two ergonomic rubberized carrying toggles at either end, the boats shouldn't give you and your paddling partner any trouble getting it from the car top to the water.

    Specifications

    • The Prodigy 12.0 is 12 feet 2 inches long and a generous 27.25 inches wide. Rated for a 350-pound maximum load, it has a deck height of 15.25 inches. The cockpit is 51 inches by 23 inches and the boat weighs 51 pounds empty.
