Outlook Vs. Outlook Express

Microsoft Outlook comes as part of the Microsoft Office Outlook package and can be used to organize email, schedule tasks and manage contacts. Some of its key features include Microsoft Exchange Server email accounts, automatic email replies, multiple address books, junk email filtering, automatic backup and archiving of items. On the other hand, Microsoft Outlook Express is an email client that can be used to send and receive email and access newsgroups.

  1. Microsoft Exchange Server

    • Microsoft Exchange Server is a messaging and collaboration software tool developed by Microsoft. Some of its features include email, calendar and support for mobile and web-based access to information. It is part of Microsoft Outlook, not Outlook Express.

    Automatic Email Replies

    • Microsoft Outlook’s Out of Office Assistant features automatic replies to email when you are unavailable to answer them. This feature is not available in Outlook Express.

    Multiple Address Books

    • Microsoft Outlook provides Multiple Address Books that you can use for various purposes. Outlook Express has only one address book.

    Information Rights Management (IRM)

    • Information Rights Management functionality of Microsoft Outlook allows you to control whether recipients can print, copy or forward your email. If enabled, recipients cannot print, copy or forward your emails. This function is not available in Microsoft Outlook Express.

    Automatic Backup

    • With Microsoft Outlook's automatic backup function, you can archive items that are no longer needed. This helps to keep your mailbox size small. Automatic backup is not available with Microsoft Outlook Express.

    Word Email Editor

    • In Microsoft Outlook, you can use Microsoft Word as your email editor. You can use all the features of Word for creating and editing email. This feature is not available with Outlook Express.

    Junk Email Filter

    • Microsoft Outlook’s junk email filter feature scans and separates all junk email from the others. This feature is not available with Outlook Express.
