Detox Teas That Are Good for You

Toxins invade the body every day. They are in what we drink, the food we eat, everythings we are exposed to, including the very air we breathe. Detox teas are herbal teas formulated to flush toxins from the system, revitalize organ functioning and increase immunity. It is best to determine which organ is in need of cleansing in order to choose the proper tea. Avoid using too many herbs for a single organ, which could release too many toxins at once and make you ill. It is best to buy teas specially prepared, rather than to formulate your own.

  1. Liver Detox

    • The liver is the most important organ in body detoxification. It cleanses the blood of toxins. This organ may need detoxifying if there is a feeling of low energy and sluggishness in the morning, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or worsening allergies. Look for teas containing some of these herbs to detox the liver: milk thistle, dandelion, schizandra, cats claw, green tea, liverwort, barberry, kelp, Oregon grape, yam, peppermint, yellow dock, aloe vera, spearmint, rosemary, parsley and turmeric.

    Colon Detox

    • The colon is responsible for eliminating waste and toxins from the system. Red meat and junk food can cause colon clogs and create toxins. Diarrhea, constipation, foul-smelling stools or a feeling of more waste in the colon after a bowel movement means it's likely the colon is in need of a cleanse. These are some herbs used in colon detox teas: senna, cascara sagrada, rhubarb, raspberry leaf, barberry bark, slippery elm, aloe vera, psyllium fiber, flaxseed, papaya, wormwood and fennel.

    Kidney Detox

    • The kidneys are also responsible for eliminating toxins from the body. If they become toxic, then kidney stones can develop and you may have either trouble urinating or incontinence. These are some ingredients used to cleanse the kidneys and urinary tract: licorice root, parsley, juniper berries, uva ursi, gravel root, cornsilk and dandelion

    Lung or Respiratory Detox

    • The lungs are constantly assaulted by air pollution. Frequent problems with asthma, bronchitis or a persistent cough signify that the lungs need to be cleansed. A few lung cleansers: pleurisy root, yellow dock, hops, mullein, hyssop and lobelia.

    Immune System Detox

    • When the immune system stops working correctly, you'll get frequent colds or infections and it takes longer to get well. Then it's important to detoxify the immune system so itt works properly. These herbs are used to correct the immune system: echinacea, cat's claw, golden seal, marshmallow root, walnut bark, pau d' arco and wormwood.

    Precautions

    • Use detox teas according to their directions. Most teas suggest two to three 8-ounce cups a day for no more than 30 days at a time. Detox teas should not be used by pregnant or nursing women. Consult your doctor if you have severe liver or kidney damage before using detox teas for those organs.
