HGH Information

Human growth hormone (HGH), a protein released by the pituitary gland, is responsible for the growth and proliferation of cells. The hormone is used as a treatment for growth conditions in adults and children. HGH increases body fat, muscle mass, bone density and improves energy levels. Although the hormone is a natural occurrence in the human body, scientists are still unsure of its overall interaction with cellular reactions.

  1. Prescribed Uses

    • HGH is used in legal treatment for conditions, such as Turner's syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome and chronic renal insufficiency. Physicians also use HGH in adults when an illness causes lower levels of human growth hormone. For instance, HIV causes low levels in adults and HGH supplements are prescribed.

    Pharmacology

    • Synthetic forms of HGH are produced and marketed as different name compounds called somatropin and somatrem. Somatropin is a compound that emulates the exact molecular structure as the body's naturally circulating HGH. Somatrem is slightly different in its chemical structure. Since HGH is a protein, the difference of somatrem from normal HGH is only one amino acid sequence. Synthetic forms of HGH can cause edema, carpal tunnel syndrome and joint pain.

    Illicit Uses

    • HGH is used by some bodybuilders. The drug increases muscle mass, so it is used along with steroids to increase skeleton muscle while reducing the amount of fat in the body. HGH is also used to slow the aging process and reduce premature wrinkles, which makes it desirable for women. Additionally, HGH reduces appetite, which helps some people lose weight. The aesthetic benefits of HGH have made it a part of the black market, but always consult a doctor before taking any kind of hormone.

    Abuse

    • Because of its effective way of reducing body fat, HGH has been abused by bodybuilders. It is also abused by many ass a way to reverse the aging process. Because HGH isn't fully understood, it is dangerous for abusers to use the drug on a consistent basis. Patients are urged to speak to a physician before using HGH as a means to enhance body composition.

    Distribution

    • HGH is available through prescription from a licensed physician. However, some illegal methods of distribution have concerned the medical communities. Online pharmacies have also created ways to charge for the medication without fully understanding the patient's medical history. This can be dangerous for people who have adverse reactions to the drug.
