Use of Tamsulosin
Tamsulosin is the generic name for a prescription medicine. It is used for the treatment and management of an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia. An enlarged prostate is a medical condition that is particularly common with elderly males. When the prostate gland becomes bigger, it can result in some difficulties with urination, as it is located directly under the bladder.

Use
-
Tamsulosin is used to manage and control the uncomfortable symptoms that are associated with an enlarged prostate. These symptoms include having to urinate with great frequency, the sensation of not being able to entirely empty out the bladder, and a small stream when urinating.
Function
-
To control the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, Tamsulosin enables the prostate's muscles to relax. It also relaxes the muscles that are around the bladder's opening. This can assist in raising the flow of urine and reducing symptoms, including not being able to empty the bladder.

Minor Side Effects
-
With Tamsulosin use, some minor side effects are possible. These include sleeplessness, mild drowsiness or dizziness, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, reduced sex drive and abnormal ejaculation, such as painful ejaculation. These side effects often subside quickly, but if you have any of them and find them to be persistent or especially troublesome, speak with your doctor about them.
Severe Side Effects
-
Although they are significantly less common, some severe side effects of Tamsulosin can occur. These severe effects are extreme dizziness, passing out, and painful erection, or an erection that lasts for more than four hours. Serious allergic reactions can also happen. Some signs to be aware of include having trouble breathing, the tongue, throat, face or lips becoming swollen, and breaking out into hives. If you notice any of these serious signs, immediately get emergency medical assistance.
Overdose
-
When using Tamsulosin, it is crucial to make sure that you only take the appropriate dosage amount (consult with your doctor about this). If you fear that you might have overdosed on this medication, immediately get medical assistance, as it could cause some serious consequences. Tamsulosin overdose symptoms are lightheadedness, passing out, rapid heartbeat, skin that is cold or clammy and extreme headache.
