Diovan Side-Effects: Weight Gain
Diovan is a prescription medication used to treat the conditions of heart failure and hypertension (high blood pressure). Diovan helps to keep blood vessels from constricting, which helps promote healthy blood flow. Side effects for Diovan can range from mild to severe. Seek medical attention if you experience a negative reaction to Diovan, including sudden weight gain.

Severe Reactions
-
Diovan is associated with certain side effects that are considered severe. It is very important that you call your doctor's office right away if you are experiencing a severe reaction to Diovan. Severe reactions include weight gain, feeling faint, pain in the chest, swelling, numbness and rapid heartbeat.
Diovan and Weight Gain
-
If you are drinking alcohol while taking Diovan, the alcohol may be contributing to your weight gain. You should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while taking Diovan. If you are experiencing shortness of breath and swelling of the legs or ankles in addition to weight gain, seek emergency medical attention as this can be a sign of congestive heart failure.

Side Effects
-
Some side effects of Diovan are less severe, but can be unpleasant. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing any of these side effects, as he may need to adjust your Diovan dosage. Side effects include: stuffy nose, throat soreness, coughing, pain in the back, diarrhea or constipation, stomach pain, lack of appetite, itching skin rash, trouble sleeping, headache, tiredness, anxiety, feeling weak or lack of sexual desire.
Warning
-
Some side effects of Diovan are life-threatening and require immediate medical treatment. It is critical that you seek emergency care if you exhibit signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing and/or facial swelling (lips, tongue, neck or throat). Other severe reactions include blurred vision; chest pain; fainting, lightheadedness or other symptoms of low blood pressure; irregular heartbeat; difficulty swallowing; unusual bruising or bleeding; jaundice; dark urine; and a change in the amount of urine produced. In extremely rare cases, Diovan is linked to a condition that breaks down muscle tissue, which can cause kidney failure. Call your physician if you experience any of these symptoms.
Interaction
-
Do not use Diovan if you suffer from kidney or liver disease, if you have a tendency to be dehydrated or if you have congenital heart failure. Talk to your doctor about all of the medical conditions you have, and all of the medications you are taking before using Diovan. If Diovan is causing you to gain weight, talk to your doctor about devising an exercise and diet regimen that is appropriate for your medical condition. Do not take Diovan if you are pregnant or breast feeding without discussing your condition with your doctor, as Diovan can pass into breast milk.
