How Long Is Adderall in Your System?

Adderall is a prescription medication which is used to treat the condition of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Adderall is also used to treat sleep conditions such as Narcolepsy. Adderall is classified as a stimulant and works by affecting the central nervous system. One single dosage of Adderall may stay in the body for two to four days.

  1. Dosage

    • You should take Adderall exactly as it was prescribed to you. Do not double up on your dosage, as this may cause an Adderall overdose. Symptoms of Adderall overdose include feeling flu-like symptoms, severe muscle pain, tremors, diarrhea and/or vomiting, or feeling restless. Trouble breathing or irregular heart rate are additional symptoms of Adderall overdose. Seek emergency medical attention if you are experiencing Adderall overdose.

    Adderall In The System

    • Adderall is detectable in urine analysis. One single dose of Adderall may stay in your system for up to approximately four days. If you've been taking Adderall regularly, it can take longer than four days for Adderall to exit your system. If you are considering discontinuing your treatment with Adderall, you should discuss that decision with your doctor. If you are being treated for ADHD, be aware that symptoms of ADHD may reappear after you discontinue treatment.

    Severe Reactions

    • Adderall use may be associated with severe side effects which require immediate medical attention. If you notice an uneven heart rate or feel your heart pounding, seek emergency medical care. If you feel lightheaded or have been feeling like you are going to faint, seek immediate medical care. If you are experiencing higher than usual blood pressure or blurred vision, anxiety or difficulty concentrating, get help right away. An additional side effect of Adderall is depression, so please seek medical help if you are experiencing depression or feel a desire to hurt yourself or others.

    Side Effects

    • Occasionally, Adderall may cause mild to moderate side effects. It is very important that you talk to your physician about these reactions, as he may need to reevaluate your dosage and adjust your medication. Mild to moderate reactions include difficulty sleeping, mouth dryness, weight gain as well as a loss or lack of appetite. Additional side effects of Adderall include decreased sexual desire or feeling impotent. Talk with your doctor if you experience any reaction to Adderall.

    Warning

    • Do not ingest any vitamin C (including orange and other fruit juices) while taking your dose of Adderall. Vitamin C can interact with the way Adderall is released into your system. Only take Vitamin C after an hour has passed after you've taken your dose of Adderall. Do not drive or operate machinery until you are used to Adderall being in your system, as Adderall can impair your judgment.
