The Effects of Long-Term Omeprazole

Omeprazole is a prescription medication used to treat heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease. While there are no damaging effects to the body from using Omeprazole over long term periods, side effects can be long term, lasting for hours, weeks, or for as long as you continue to use the drug. If you are experiencing negative long-term side effects as a result of taking Omeprazole, you should inform your physician, since he will need to adjust your dosage.

  1. Dosage

    • Take Omeprazole exactly as it was prescribed to you; do not alter your dosage. If you forget to take your dose, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. Never double up on Omeprazole, since it may result in overdose. Omeprazole overdose can be fatal. Symptoms include blurred vision, increased heartbeat, headache, blurred vision, feeling confused, drowsiness, nauseous, vomiting or sweating. Call the poison control center (800-222-1222) if you are experiencing an Omeprazole overdose.
