If you've never thinned your hair before you should use the thinning shears because they are easier to use and are safer.

Even though many of the scene and emo hairstyles call for disheveled hair, making it look this way can be very hard on your hair and can damage your hair. Deep condition your hair once a week and apply a heat protecting product to it before you straighten it. All of the processes of these styles can damage your hair. You should give your hair frequent breaks from these techniques before it becomes unmanageable.
