Banital and Weight Loss

Banital is a weight loss supplement that comes in pill form and is designed to assist in healthy weight loss. Banital is not FDA approved for weight loss and is not a prescription medication so it can be purchased by anyone.

  1. Function

    • Banital.com claims that the supplement works in four methods. It is meant to promote healthy carbohydrate metabolism, block conversion of starch into glucose which prevents digestion of complex carbohydrates, help suppress your appetite and boost the body's metabolism level thus increasing overall energy level.

    Ingredients

    • Banital is an herbal supplement containing a selection of various ingredients. It contains: glucomannan, a natural water soluble fiber; green tea, a natural extract containing caffeine that helps burn fat; synephrine, a stimulant designed to boost energy and calorie expenditure similar to caffeine; and chitosan, a fiber that absorbs fat molecules thus reducing the amount of fat absorbed by the body. Banital also includes chamomile and ginger root, herbs that have been known to aid in healthy digestive functioning.

    Effective Dosage

    • From the herbal supplements that are contained in Banital, only green tea, synephrine and chitosan have been indicated to contribute to weight loss, according to Criticalorie.com. However, Banital appears to not provide enough dosage of each of the aforementioned ingredients for effective weight loss. Banital contains 100 mg of green tea when greater than 300 mg per day is required to stimulate weight loss. Similarly, the supplement contains a 6 percent concentration of synephrine which is likely not enough and Banital does not indicate how much chitosan is contained in their supplement. A dosage greater than 3 g of chitosan has been known to help induce weight loss.

    Appetite Suppression

    • It is unknown whether Banital works as an effective appetite suppressant. The included ingredient glucomannan is largely responsible for the appetite suppressant claim. Gluomannan is a water soluble fiber that turns into a gel-like consistency when it interacts with liquids in the digestive system. This increases digestive time and promotes a feeling of being full. 2 to 4 g of glucomannan a day, taken with water 30 minutes before a meal has been known to work as an appetite suppressant. Banital does not indicate how much glucomannan is contained.

    Effects

    • Banital's overall effectiveness in weight loss is dubious. If your weight loss goal is 4 to 6 pounds in 1 to 2 months, Banital may assist in achieving this goal. However, given the lack of clarity in the dosage amounts of ingredients contained in Banital, it is likely that weight change when taking the supplement will be negligible. Identifying and using a few of the ingredients in Banital by themselves in effective dosages may yield better weight loss results when coupled with a healthy diet and physical activity.
