Definitions of Crystals & Minerals

For centuries crystals, stones and minerals have been used for healing and magical purposes. Each crystal, stone or mineral has been formed within the earth and carries a particular vibration. It is said that if you find yourself drawn to certain crystals, stones or minerals it is because your body needs the properties of that particular one, mentally, physically or psychically. There are thousands of types of crystals, stones and minerals, but there are a few that are among the most popular specimens.

  1. Minerals

    • Aluminum is found in gems like ruby, sapphire, turquoise and moonstone and is said to fortify those who are thin and debilitated. Copper is also found in turquoise and is used to strengthen the nerves. It is also purported to help those suffering from arthritis. Iron is said to assist in the healing of fever and inflammation. It is found in many forms. Cooking in cast iron cookware may be helpful for some people. Calcium is a particularly beneficial mineral, used for strengthening the bones; calcium use is also touted as a way to soothe the emotions. Manganese is related to iron and can be used by those who are singers or public speakers. This mineral is said to encourage creative thinking. It is found in stones like amethyst and rose quartz.

    • The earth gives us many stones and crystals to use as tools in our daily lives. Abalone comes from the sea. It is a beautiful, multicolored stone used to aid in psychic development and to soothe upset emotions. There are many forms of agate found all over the world, and their uses vary. However, whatever the form, agates are generally calming; help us tap our inner knowledge; and ground, calm and center ourselves. Amber is also a calming, soothing stone. Calcite comes in many colors from white to pale yellow and green. It is used for seeking the future, to promote dreams, and to bring prosperity and happiness.

    • Citrine is a comforting stone, used for building up energy and cleansing. It is cloudy to clear and its color may be yellow to orange. The emerald is also popular in jewelry-making and is the birthstone for May. Emerald promotes divine love and integrity. Fluorite is a beautiful stone of cloudy green and purple tones and is touted as a particularly psychic gem. It centers the mind and connects to the soul. Garnet, the deep purplish-red birthstone of January, strengthens the soul and helps to encourage.

    • Hematite is an interesting black metallic stone, usually highly polished. It is used to ground and remove negativity. Jade promotes luck and offers protection and wisdom. Labradorite is another intensely psychic stone, which when worn can increase psychic awareness. Ruby is a powerful healer and helps relieve pain. Topaz may be blue or gold and aids in communication and calming and brings peace. One of the most popular gems is the quartz crystal, found in many forms and colors. This powerful stone is a transmitter that charges and intensifies the energy and intent of the person utilizing it.
