Myprodol Side Effects


Myprodol is an analgesic, an anti-inflammatory and an anti-pyretic drug used to relieve mild to moderate pain due to an inflammation with or without a fever. It’s a medication that contains ibuprofen, paracetamol (acetaminophen) and codeine phosphate. This combination makes it an effective treatment for post-operative procedures. Myprodol is usually tolerated well by most individuals; but there can be side-effects with each of the ingredients contained in Myprodol.

Myprodol is an effective mild-to-moderate pain killer for conditions such as sport injuries and dental work. The medication works by blocking the pain at three receptor sites in the brain. It is available in capsule and suspension forms.

Myprodol is a combination of three drugs. Each has its own side-effects and contra-indications. The side-effects of Ibuprofin may include nausea and dyspepsia. There have also been reports of peptic ulcer and gastric intestinal bleeding related to taking Myprodol. Other side-effects include acute reversible renal failure, kidney function problems or abnormal liver function tests and low platelets (tiny cells that assist with clotting of the blood)

Side-Effects of Codeine Phosphate

Codeine phosphate may cause dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation, sweating and facial flushing, confusion, drowsiness, vertigo, restlessness, mood changes, urination difficulties, a slow heart rate (below 60 beats per minute) and a forceful heart beat.

Side-Effects of Paracetamol

Side effects of Paracetamol are considered rare. However, there maybe may a sensitivity reaction that may cause skin rash or blood disorders. There may also be swelling of the pancreas when Paracetamol is taken on a long-term basis.

Allergic Reaction

An allergic reaction to Myprodol is rare, but it may occur in some individuals. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include a rash, hives with itching or swelling of the face, mouth and tongue or throat. In addition there maybe wheezing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.

Discuss your medical history with your doctor. Mention any medications you may be taking, including herbal products or over-the-counter medications. Older or debilitated patients should take reduced doses. Do not take Myprodol if you are allergic to aspirin.
