Bisolvon, also known as dextromethorphan, is a cough suppressant used for the treatment of symptoms associated with coughing. The medication works by signaling the nerve impulses in the brain that lead to the cough trigger, which in turn alleviates coughing in users. As with many cough medications, there are a number of side effects associated with use.
Common Side Effects
Some common side effects include upset stomach, allergic reactions, hives, rash, difficulty breathing, closing of the throat and swelling of the lips, mouth and tongue. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using this medication, they only affect a small amount of users.
Severe Side Effects
Unfortunately, there are also a number of severe side effects associated with using this medication. Some of these include anxiety, severe dizziness, nervousness, drowsiness, restlessness, hallucinations, confusion and slow breathing. These side effects are also very rare and do not affect a large amount of users.
Dizziness and Drowsiness
Bisolvon has been known to cause dizziness and drowsiness in users, so it is highly recommended that users do not operate any type of machinery throughout the course of treatment.
Always consult with your doctor or pharmacist before beginning treatment with any over-the-counter cough medication. If you experience any of the aforementioned side effects, contact your local physician immediately. Bisolvon is meant for use as a cough suppressant only and should never be used recreationally. If an overdose of Bisolvon is suspected, contact your local poison control center and head directly to the nearest emergency room.
Always use this medication exactly as is recommended on the label and never in dosages that exceed the recommendation as it can lead to dependency and drug addiction in some users. Drink extra fluids before and after taking Bisolvon to loosen up the fluids and mucus in your body to aid in the alleviation of symptoms.
This medication should never be given to children under the age of 4 as the medication can cause serious harm to their bodies.
