  1. The Master BBQ School

    • The Master BBQ School is designed to help cooks improve their outdoor grilling techniques. This curriculum includes courses in direct and indirect grilling, rotisserie cooking and slow-wood-smoke cooking. It is a home-cooking course with eight lessons that allow you to work at your own pace. If you complete the course within one year, you will be awarded the Master of BBQ certificate. This school has been approved by the American Culinary Federation.

    Jack's Old South

    • In addition to cooking schools, some barbecue sauce developers have classes available as well. These classes are geared toward people who want to win barbecue contests. For example, Jack's Old South is a barbecue sauce company that offers classes several times a year in Georgia. Classes range from two to three days and focus on contest cooking techniques. Jack's Old South claims to have won 1,400 titles in barbecue contests and offers that knowledge to people who want to learn to cook barbecue.

    Lotta BS BBQ

    • This is an organization that prides itself on its barbecue competition preparation. Classes at the school help you become a master barbecue chef by cooking alongside award winner Bob Snelson. He is a former judge, contestant and winner of the Kansas City BBQ Society contest. Snelson's classes focus on how to choose the right meats, how to apply signature rubs and spices, and what types of cookers and smokers to use.

    Kansas City Barbecue Society

    • This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to producing the best barbecue and sharing it with the world. This society has more than 10,000 members worldwide and offers an array of services, such as educational programs, consultation services and civic organization presentations. This organization has many classes available and most legitimate barbecue cooking schools are members of this organization.
