Never take this medication for more than four months, as it can be habit-forming. Using alcohol while taking Ativan can increase the severity of certain side effects. Individuals with a history of substance abuse should discuss the dangers of using Ativan with their doctor. Never take Ativan if pregnant or breast-feeding. Use with extreme care in the elderly.
