Natural Stone Design
-
Stone fire pits are often built using natural grey stones. These stones are made of rough granite. The stones are cemented together to make walls and are arranged in a square, circle, half circle or other designs. The stones vary in size. If you want a smaller pit, smaller stones or fewer stone layers are used or for a larger one, larger stones or more stone layers are used. Stones can be used for complicated fire pits as well as simple campfire style pits.
Polished Stones
-
A more refined stone fire pit can be built of polished stones or marble. Marble comes in an array of colors. Marble is usually cut in flat slabs and creates wall-like sides to the fire pit. The slabs of marble can form square, rectangle or hexagon shaped fire pits.

Ledge Stone
-
For a more natural, but still modern look, stone fire pits can be built using ledge stones. Ledge stones are thin stone slabs that are piled on top of each other to form a wall. Like natural stone, ledge stones are fitted together with cement. Ledge stones are normally left in their natural color.
Flagstone
-
Flagstones can be used to support a fire pit that is close to the surface of the ground. The flagstones are a natural stone color. They are flat and laid on top of the ground like a stone walk. They come in atypical shapes and a variety of sizes, so they can be fitted together randomly.
Cultured Stone
-
Cultured stone can be used for fire pits. It is made of other materials such as concrete, plaster and other mixes. Cultured red stone looks a lot like natural stone. It is very commonly used on modern fire pits because the fake stones are lighter and easier to arrange. They can also be shaped in any way for exact fit.
