Liquid Vitamins for Acne

Acne is a skin condition in which the skin's pores are plugged or inflamed. Acne is treatable, however, most breakouts can be avoided with proper nutrition that includes receiving the required daily amount of vitamins. However, many people find it difficult to take vitamins in pill form. Fortunately, the vitamins needed to control acne are also found in liquid form. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Vitamin A (Retinol)

    • Vitamin A is important to skin health in general because it is essential to the maintenance and repair of skin tissue. Vitamin A is also an antioxidant and strengthens the skin's protective tissue. This vitamin prevents acne from forming by reducing the skin's natural oil production.

    Vitamin B Complex

    • Vitamin B complex is made up of all of the B vitamins and other nutrients that supplement them such as choline and folic acid. A deficiency in any of the B vitamins can cause hormonal imbalance that can lead to acne flare-ups. The most important B vitamin for acne is vitamin B5 also known as pantothenic acid. Vitamin B5 counteracts hormonal imbalances that cause acne in many people. Vitamin B5 is crucial to the production of coenzyme A that helps to metabolize skin oil.

    Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

    • Vitamin C is beneficial to skin health and the body in general for its antioxidant properties. However, vitamin C is beneficial in treating the after-effects of acne, namely acne scarring. Ascorbic acid is crucial in the production of collagen that helps make acne less noticeable and reduces scarring by plumping the skin.

    Vitamin E

    • Vitamin E, as with vitamin C, has no direct effect on treating acne, but aids in preventing acne scarring. This vitamin is an antioxidant that protects cell membranes from damage. Along with preventing acne scarring, vitamin E also reduces the appearance of older acne scars.

    Benefits of Taking Liquid Vitamins

    • Besides the advantage of not having to swallow a pill, vitamins in liquid form perform better than those taken in pill form. According Dr. George Obikoya of The Vitamins & Nutrition Center, only 10 percent to 20 percent of vitamins taken in pill form are absorbed into the body, while 98 percent of the vitamins taken in liquid form are absorbed. Taking the liquid vitamins that aid in treating and healing acne have a better chance of treating your acne much faster than these same vitamins will if taken in pill form.

    Considerations

    • As with anything else, taking too many vitamins can be bad for your overall health. To prevent taking too much of any one vitamin, these vitamins can be taken in a liquid multivitamin that also includes minerals that are beneficial in treating acne. However, if you eat a well balanced diet, your body should receive the necessary vitamins it needs to function.
