Ideas for Banquet Decorations
Decorating for a banquet can be fun, but it can also be stressful. To make the job a little easier you should have ideas for banquet decorations well in advance of the event. Stick with decorations that are simple, yet elegant and charming. The decorations should compliment the theme of the banquet.

Centerpieces
-
Centerpieces are an important part of any banquet, especially since they are placed on the tables where the guests will notice them. Choose centerpieces that do not obstruct guests from being able to see each other when seated. Also choose pieces that are attractive to look at from all directions (so no picture frames). A few ideas for banquet centerpieces are floating flowers (especially for weddings), candles in quart jars filled with hard candies (good for holiday banquets), platters or baskets filled with a variety of fruits or a fish bowl filled with seashells and water (perfect for summer banquets). Use centerpieces that are appropriate not only for the theme of the banquet but also the season.
Chairs
-
Decorate the chairs. Often times banquets are furnished with unattractive metal folding chairs. Decorate them as well so that they compliment the rest of your decorations. Decorating metal chairs can be as simple as buying a stiff fabric, such as cotton or denim, which can be folded easily into a bow and attached to the back of the chair. There are also chair covers that you can rent at party stores that slip directly over the chair so that you hide the metal frame all together.

Displays
-
Leave a space to use for displays, such as trophies or photos. What you display, if anything at all, depends on what the focus is of your banquet and what you want your guests to know. For example, if it is a birthday or wedding banquet, use the display table to introduce the guests of honor(s) to the other guests, by placing photos, past awards, hobbies and souvenirs of places they've been. Display tables can be accented with candles, fresh flowers or party favors for the guests to take home later.
Lighting
-
Provide lighting that is a match to the mood of the banquet. If you are throwing an awards banquet for your company, romantic candle light is probably not the best lighting choice. However, if you are throwing a wedding banquet then candle light or strung twinkle lights are appropriate.
Room Decor
-
Fill the room with pictures and posters of what the theme of your banquet is about. Also, use fresh flowers that are in season to add color and fragrance to the room. Place the bouquet of flowers in empty spaces and corners. Find flowers that match the color scheme of your banquet to help tie them in with all other decorations in the room.
