Candida Yeast Diets

Candida is a diploid fungus that lives naturally in the large intestines. There are times that this yeast-like substance over-proliferates and causes symptoms such as hives, aching, yeast infections, gastritis and even autoimmune problems such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. This overgrowth of candida is often spurred from the overuse of antibiotics, birth control pills and asthmatic inhalers. It also can be spurred by poor diet and food allergies or intolerances. Whatever the case, this yeast must be eradicated from one's system to restore the proper functioning of vital organs. Dieting, along with eating certain spices or oils, is the best way to accomplish this.

  1. Foods To Eliminate

    • If you have a candida problem, you need to eliminate yeast and glutens from your diet, at least temporarily. Glutens are sugars that feed and fuel the systemic yeast. Most commercial products contain glutens. Avoid the following foods: all wheat or yeast products, including baked goods and breads, cereal, pasta, croutons, pastries, crackers, soup, milk, cheese, cookies, beer, peanuts and sweetened vegetables. Check all ingredients at the store before purchasing anything.
Restaurants present a problem for people with candida overgrowth. Meats often are basted in sauces that contain yeast or glutens. When eating out, ask about the ingredients.

    Foods To Eat

    • A candida sufferer has two choices for their diet: They can either eat more meat, fish, potatoes, yams and brown rice instead of breads and pasta; or they can buy gluten-free substitutes such as spelt bread and rice pasta. Brown rice doesn't contain glutens. There are also a number of other grains and foods that are gluten-free, including millet, amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa, beans, most nuts, sorghum and kamut. Vegetables are healthy because they have digestive enzymes that can help break down the excessive candida. Fruits can be eaten, but they should be limited to one to two servings per day.
Plan your meals. Have enough meat, grains and substitute foods on hand for the day's meals.
For snack lovers, there are plenty of tasty crackers and cookies that are made from pecans, almonds and hazelnut. Brown rice is used in some brands of ice cream. Some stores even have gluten-free pizzas and Italian dishes.

    Foods With Cultures

    • Probiotics can help restore the intestines with additional flora, which helps fight off candida overgrowth. Instead of purchasing probiotics, start eating yogurt every day while you treat your candida. Yogurt has natural cultures such as lactobaccillus acidophilus and streptococcus species.

    Foods With Antibiotic Properties

    • There are a number of foods that have antibiotic properties for fighting yeast in the system. Garlic is one of the most popular ones. Eating a couple garlic cloves a day can help fight yeast. As an alternative, garlic oil can be used on various foods. Virgin coconut oil is another remedy, as is tea tree oil. Other yeast killers include grapefruit seed extract, cayenne pepper and Reishi mushrooms.
A combination of a gluten-free diet, spices, oils and herbs can work together to get rid of a candida overgrowth.

    Eating and Water Intake

    • People with candida might consider eating five to six times a day. Smaller meals eaten more frequently can enhance the body's metabolism. Consuming less food is also easier on the digestive tract. Drink plenty of water to help rid the body of yeast and toxins.
