Are There Any Jobs for 15 Year Olds?

Most businesses have minimum age requirements when it comes to hiring teens. A lot of them require that teens be at least 16 years old. While it can be difficult for 15 year olds to find jobs, it is doable. There are many places that will hire 15 year olds. Some of these jobs are obvious, others are not. With a little thought, it is possible for a 15 year old to find a way to make money.

Grocery Stores and Local Markets

Most grocery stores and local fruit and vegetable markets will hire 15 year olds. Job duties can include checking out customers, bagging groceries, stocking shelves and cleaning. Other duties may include helping out with inventory, setting up store displays or greeting customers.

Fast-Food Restaurants

Many fast food restaurants hire 15 year olds. Job duties can include food preparation, taking orders, bagging orders, working the drive-thru window and cleaning the restaurant. Other duties may include stocking the inventory, sweeping the parking lot, stocking the ice machine and patrolling the dining room to see if customers need anything.

Neighborhood Services

A 15 year old's neighborhood is a great place to find jobs. Teens can ask around to see if anyone needs help washing or walking their dogs, lawn maintenance, car washing, babysitting, house cleaning or with meal preparations. Other jobs that teens may run across from their neighbors can include holiday decorating, gift wrapping, packing up boxes for a move, cleaning out their neighbor's garage or helping with a yard sale.

Tutoring Jobs

Bright, friendly and intelligent 15 year olds may find jobs as tutors to grade school students. Tutoring jobs may be listed in the local newspaper or library bulletin board. Teachers can often help their teen students locate tutoring jobs. Teens should only take on a tutoring job if they are proficient in the subject they will be tutoring.

Local Small-Business Owners

Small business owners often employ 15 year olds to help out in their businesses. Teenagers are often surprised by how many local business owners they have contact with. Asking their parents who they know that owns small businesses in their area can sometimes garner a few job leads for the teen. Job duties will vary depending on the type of business the teen is employed at.
