Avast Antivirus is a product of ALWIL Software a.s., based out of the Czech Republic. ALWIL is one of the first security companies to emerge after the Velvet Revolution brought about the fall of Communism in the former Soviet Republic of Czechoslovakia. Since 1991, ALWIL Software has become a leader in providing security solutions in several areas around the globe. Avast Antivirus is now offered with full tech support in over 30 different languages.
Since Avast is one of the few antivirus programs created to work on multiple operating platforms, the problems and solutions covered in this article may not fix your related issue. Advast Antivirus software works on PDAs (WinCE and Palm), Linux, all Windows versions, U3 (flash drives), MAC, WHS (Windows Home Server), and BART CDs (Bootable Antivirus & Recovery Tools), which makes it one of the most versatile antivirus solutions available worldwide.
Not Enough Storage
This is a common error message, when the Avast Virus Definition database has not been updated for months, or upon fresh installs on some platforms. It appears most often on older versions of the Microsoft Windows OS (Operating System). If this occurs, go to the Avast website and download the full current Virus Definition database, and do a complete install. Once installed, make sure Avast is set to do automatic daily updates for smaller downloads.
Norton Antivirus does not fully uninstall when an "auto-uninstall" command is used through the "Remove Programs" panel inside of the Windows OS. If you received an error message from Avast which states "Can't Connect, Can't Update," then click on "My Computer," go to the C drive, scroll to "Programs" and click on "Nortons." Then manually remove all files remaining from the previous antivirus program. Now reinstall/repair Avast. If the error appears again, then click "F3 FIND" and type "SYMANTEC & NORTON" in the find box. Remove these entries. Backup your registry, deleting any remaining files.
Avast is very sensitive to rouge antispyware programs. When installing on the Vista OS, you may receive an undefined error message. When this occurs, it indicates there is a rouge antispyware program installed on the computer. Go to "malwarebytes.org" and download the free rouge remover tool. With Rouge Remover installed, run a scan. Remove the rouge antispyware software, and Avast should install without issue. Rouge antivirus software does not indicate the program is a malicious program. It is just an indication of a conflict with Avast.
Avast is unlike some free antivirus programs, which scan, detect, block, quarantine and/or delete the malicious software. Avast free version only scans, detects and warns of an issue. Removal of malicious software is manual, initiated by the computer user, which can cause some security issues. Users should run a manual scan daily and remove all Avast listed malware and fix all security issues found. Avast Professional version automatically removes malware.
When researching computer protection, do not focus on just one vendor to provide your complete suite of security software. Research the best providers, who specialize in antivirus, antispyware, firewalls, encryption and off-site data backup. By using the best providers in each of these areas, you will lower your overall risk of security breaches by professional cybercriminals, because they will quickly realize that you are not using a standard security solution to protect your computer.
