Fungus Infection Treatment

Fungus infection treatment needs to be comprehensive and focus on both internal and external symptoms. Some people have recurring yeast infections (i.e. vaginal infection) because of systemic yeast or fungus. Internal fungus treatment can include antibiotics, dietary changes and body cleanses. External treatment typically includes topical anti-fungal creams.

  1. Signicance of Candida Albicans Treatment

    • Many external fungus infections can stem from candida albicans, a diploid fungus that lives naturally in the colon. Sometimes, an overuse of antibiotics, corticosteroids, poor dieting or stress can spur an overproduction of candida albicans. This overgrowth can irritate the lining of the large intestines and cause fecal and mucus impactions. These impactions harbor the fungus, toxins and even parasites. They also hinder nutrition absorption through the colon walls. If left untreated, these entities can enter the bloodstream and settle in cells and organs, including the skin. This can cause many illnesses as well as recurring fungus infections.

    Systemic Fungus Infection Treatment

    • An overgrowth of candida in the colon is called candidiasis. There are a number of ways to treat this type of infection. Eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables is one way to eliminate the fungus. These foods have natural enzymes which kill excess fungus. Herbs such as Paul d'Arco tea can help eliminate fungus as can senna and aloe leaves. The latter can repair the mucus membrane of the large intestines after the fungus is gone. Some people also do colon cleanses. These are in powder or syrup form. They contain herbs and foods like garlic that kill fungus.

Topical or Genital Fungus Infection Treatment

    • Doctors usually prescribe nystatin creams for people with penile or vaginal fungus or yeast infections. These help sooth the itching and pain while they heal the affected area. Medicines like Dermisil are used for ringworm. Micatin and Tinactin are used to treat athlete's foot. If these over-the-counter medication are not effective, prescriptions anti-fungals such as Mentax and Lamisil may be used. Lamisil is also used for toenail fungus which can discolor and thicken the nails.

    Oral Fungus Infection Treatment

    • Oral or mouth thrush can appear on the tongue, cheek walls, throat and esophagus. Nystatin, clotrimazole and miconazole are often used to treat this condition. People typically swish the medication around in their mouth then swallow it. If these medications are not effective many doctors will prescribe Diflucan.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Fungus infections are common and annoying but they can be prevented. Some are caused by a compromised or weakened immune system. Most people can avoid having to undergo fungus infection treatment by eating a healthy diet, exercising and bathing regularly. They should also avoid wearing wet clothing for extended periods.
