Astrological Weight Loss

Medical astrology, known as bio-cosmic astrology, uses an individual's natal horoscope to identify physical and mental strengths and weaknesses. The natal horoscope suggests the planetary influences that govern health, appearance and weight. It also reveals the planetary cycles that occur in a person's life as windows of opportunity for changing mind and body.

  1. Weight: It's Written in the Stars

    • Food and Emotions

Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, used astrology as an indicator predicting life patterns in treating his patients. The first house in the natal chart defines the physical vitality and appearance. The sixth house in the natal chart indicates the maintenance of health, nutrition and the likelihood of specific diseases. Jupiter or the Moon in the first house produces a heavy build as Jupiter is the sign of expansion and the moon suggests eating for emotional reasons. Saturn in the first house makes for a thin build, and Saturn in the sixth house gives the native the ability to stick to a diet. Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio are water signs that retain water weight as well as cling to past traumas that can produce weight. Pisces uses food to escape reality and Taurus loves the good life, which includes gourmet food. Cancers use food to pacify and comfort while Scorpio might be stuffing down those intense emotions and drives and tendency toward addiction with excess calories.

    New Moon, New Beginnings

    • That knot in your stomach.

A new moon in the first or sixth house of the natal chart is an especially powerful time to instigate change including a diet. This is a favorable time for weight loss and fitness programs. Saturn influences a persons disposition and when Saturn enters Virgo it is a good time to start an exercise program.

    Feeding Anger

    • "Hungry?"

Anger has an insatiable appetite and many people find themselves either consciously or unconsciously stuffing down their feelings of trauma, anger or unhappiness by eating lots of food. Many people use fat as a physical barrier, a form of armor and protection from external danger or past traumas. Astrology can provide insight and understanding into past traumas and past lives that might still be affecting the individual's emotions.

    Astrological Appetite

    • Food addiction and the stars.

True hunger plays only a small part in our appetites. Aries love action and adventure and might not slow down enough to actually grow a garden or cook a meal hence fast food looms large for Aries. Taurus loves all things fine and consider any form of diet as emotional denial. Gemini is nervous and usually does not retain too much weight except that Gemini prefers to think than to exercise. Leos love to indulge, and often partake in grand fashion, ignoring any healthful restrictions to food intake. Virgos love food but are generally fastidious, paying close attention to health and hygiene. But Virgos often prefer sedentary lives, which can lead to a lack of exercise and weight gain. Libra is the sign of balance and they love to socialize and eat. Sagittarians love knowledge and travel, but if they hold that energy in, it can result in weight gain. Capricorns love excellence in all material things and are often connoisseurs of gourmet food, which can lead to over-indulgence. Aquarians are freedom-loving and can gain weight out of rebellion if they feel unduly restricted. Pisces absorb the emotions of others and might use extra weight as a form of protection from feeling too much.

    Eating to Live

    • Cycles of the stars

In order to change your eating habits, you need to embrace a new lifestyle. Instead of using food as a reward system, find something else that isn't food but that satisfies you emotionally, like a good book, movie, or sports event. Cancers, Virgos, Tauruses, Scorpios and Pisces have a strong tendency to use food as a reward. These signs have a propensity to become food addicts, using food for emotional reasons instead of for nutritional support of the body.

    Astrological Cycles and Weight Gain

    • Charting weight by the stars.

The planets have individual orbits that affect a person's health. Saturn's cycle is every 29 to 30 years, and when it returns in a persons chart, there is an increased opportunity to make long-term, lasting changes in health regimes. The Uranus opposition that occurs at about age 40 is also a time to embrace far-reaching changes. The planet Chiron returns at age 49 to 50, when again the individual can revamp her diet and exercise habits with lasting success. And finally, the Neptune opposition occurs at about age 82.
