Benefits of Orange & Jasmine Green Tea

Known for centuries as one of the most fragrant of all teas, jasmine green tea, arguably the most popular scented tea in the world, also has numerous health benefits. Add to that notes of orange or orange peel and you have an antioxidant, cancer-fighting, weight loss promoting powerhouse. Made from green tea leaves, jasmine and orange flower notes, this wildly popular drink with its powerful scent calms and soothes the senses as it heals the body.

  1. Antioxidants

    • Combining green tea, jasmine and orange in one cup of tea helps rid your body of free radicals which damage body cells. Green tea is abundant in catechins, the strongest type of polyphenols, an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals and the damage that they cause. And because green tea is minimally processed, these polyphenols, particluarly epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), are more concentrated and therefore more powerful in the body. Polyphenols, a type of flavonoid, are thought to have 20 times the potency of vitamins C and E, particularly as it relates to reducing the effects of aging. But let's not knock vitamin C. Abundant in the orange, vitamin C, a water-soluble antioxidant, helps disarm free radicals and prevent damage in and out of cells.

    Weight Loss

    • Drinking orange jasmine green tea can naturally aid in a healthy weight loss regimen. The combination of caffeine, antioxidants, taste and scent aids in a speedier metabolism and more endurance for exercise. Jasmine tea is known to help inhibit fat absorption and cholesterol, while green tea uses fat as fuel, allowing it to be excreted more quickly from the body. And the orange is abundant in liminoids, a compound that is known to promote overall good health.

    Heart Protection

    • Oranges have long been touted to have cholesterol-lowering benefits, as well as providing protection against heart and lung disease. But green tea also has many heart-protective benefits by breaking down triglycerides in the blood, thinning the blood to prevent clots, protecting the heart with polyphenols and helping minimize damage and boost recovery after a heart attack.

    Cancer Prevention

    • Jasmine, oranges and green tea all have cancer-fighting properties. In jasmine, it is believed that the scent itself make have cancer fighting properties. Green tea antioxidants not only cause cancer cells to kill themselves, but also arrest new cells from developing in multiple types of cancers, including prostate, bladder, ovarian, and colorectal. And it's well known that the vitamin C in oranges protects against stomach, mouth, skin, lung, breast and colon cancers.

    Optimal Consumption

    • While much of the research done on the benefits of green tea is based on the eastern tradition of consuming three to four cups a day, just one cup of orange and jasmine green tea a day provides enough antioxidants can make a visible difference in your overall health and well being.
