Allergies & Pain
You can experience pain from allergies in different ways. The allergy can manifest many symptoms. Some of the symptoms can cause no discomfort at all, while others can be painful. Another way you can experience pain is from a condition that the allergy caused, such as an infection. If an allergy is severe, such as anaphylactic reaction, or causes a secondary infection, you should seek medical attention. Otherwise, you should be able to treat the allergy with simple remedies that are over-the-counter purchases.

Headaches
-
Allergies from grass, pollen and mold can cause much head congestion. This can put pressure on your sinuses causing a headache that can be painful. This is not an urgent situation unless you are having trouble breathing. An OTC allergy and pain medication should help relieve the symptoms of your allergy and headache. Once the allergy reaction is gone, your headache should not come back either.
Ear And Tooth Pain
-
Head congestion from allergies can turn into a sinus infection. Many people are prone to these during the time of the year when pollen is present. A sinus infection, especially if left untreated, can lead to earaches and even tooth pain. Both of these conditions can be uncomfortable. Muscle aches and pains can also occur with an allergy-induced sinus infection. OTC allergy medications can relieve the symptoms. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to clear up any infection.

Sore Throat
-
Allergies that come from mold and pollen fill your sinus cavities with mucus. This can cause post-nasal drip, which is the mucus draining down the back of your throat. This is not only uncomfortable but can cause a sore throat. This can leave your throat raw and scratchy, which will cause some pain. An OTC allergy medication and throat lozenges should relieve the symptoms. Unless your breathing is obstructed from an allergy, it is not considered urgent.
Cramping
-
Allergies from foods such as dairy products can cause symptoms that can be painful. Cramping from diarrhea and bloating with pain from constipation are just a few occurrences from this type of allergy. These symptoms should go away within a few hours. Avoiding the food that causes this will prevent further reactions. Food allergies can also cause an anaphylactic reaction. This is an urgent medical condition where swelling can close your throat and obstruct your breathing. This situation requires immediate medical attention. It could be a matter of life or death.
Blister Pain
-
An allergy to poison ivy or poison oak can be painful when the rash appears with blisters that are weeping. Depending upon where the rash breaks out, this can be an excruciating experience. A light to moderate case can be treated with the topical, calamine lotion. Benadryl, an oral medication can help with the itching and swelling. Poison ivy or oak in your eye, nose, mouth or genital area can be unbearable with pain. In a severe case such as this you should seek medical attention. The doctor can prescribe steroids which will work on relieving the swelling and itching.
Pain From Swelling And Stomach Cramping
-
When you are allergic to a bee sting, you can experience an anaphylactic reaction. This can be extremely painful. Your body swells, causing your throat to close and you struggle for breath. Many people who have this allergy carry an EpiPen, which is an injection of medication, epinephrine, that works quickly to reverse the swelling. If this is not available, seek medical attention immediately. Once the initial emergency has subsided, you can still feel the pain from the swelling for days. This can be uncomfortable especially in the area where you were stung. Topical ointments and OTC antihistamines will help in relieving the pain and swelling. Bee allergies can also cause the painful stomach reactions.
