Techniques
-
Your doctor uses four basic injection techniques when doing a wrinkle correction with Restylane. Restylane can be injected into a fold of skin once in a long thread, creating linear volume. In the serial puncture technique, Restylane is injected in several points along the skin fold to also provide linear volume.
Fanning and Cross-Hatching Techniques
-
When using the fanning technique, your doctor will use one injection that fans the threads of Restylane out from the central injection in a fan shape, creating a triangular volume correction. The cross-hatching technique combines multiple injections, threading Restylane in a crisscross pattern at right angles, creating volume in a square shape.

Treatment

During consultation, your dermatologist or plastic surgeon will examine your face and determine what the best course of injection is for your correction. Your face will be cleansed and a topical anesthetic applied. The topical takes about 30 minutes to take effect. Restylane treatment takes about 30 minutes. You will have some swelling, redness and bruising. Ice may be applied after treatment, and you can resume your normal activities.
