Liquid Vitamins Vs. Pill Vitamins

There are so many vitamin supplements to choose from, making it hard to decide which brand or type of vitamin is right for you. Vitamin supplements are typically made in liquid or pill form, but you can also buy vitamin supplements in powder form as well. Liquid vitamins are best for people who have a hard time absorbing nutrients due to a chronic health condition or advanced age. As we get older our bodies have a much harder time absorbing nutrients from supplements, and our food.

  1. Whole Food Vitamins and Synthetic Vitamins

    • Whole food vitamins are made from fruits and vegetables, which is why they are called whole food vitamins. The body is better able to absorb whole food vitamins whether they are in liquid or pill form because these vitamins are made from food. The body knows how to process foods, and our system considers whole food vitamins to be the same as food.

The absorption rate for a whole food liquid or whole food pill vitamin is the same unless a person suffers from some type of digestive disorder like celiac disease. However, the absorption rate is very different when it comes to synthetic vitamins. Synthetic vitamins are made in a lab, and this type can also be made in liquid or pill form. Liquid synthetic vitamins are more potent that whole food vitamins because they can be made in higher concentrations, making overdose more likely to happen. Only take the synthetic liquid vitamins if you are advised by your doctor, based on a health condition. Read your labels so that you know what type of vitamin you are getting.

    Benefits of Liquid Vitamins

    • However, taking liquid vitamins in a whole food formulation rather than a synthetic formulation is very beneficial to the average person, whether they suffer from health problems or not. Liquid vitamins are easier to take down and swallow. Liquid vitamins are also absorbed directly into the blood stream within minutes. The main benefit of taking liquid vitamins is the fact that drinking our vitamins bypasses the digestive process.

    Benefits of Pill Vitamins

    • Even though liquid vitamins are wonderful for some people, others still prefer vitamins in pill form. There are more brands to choose from because not as many companies make liquid vitamins. Vitamins made in pill form are also much cheaper than liquid vitamins, depending on the brand. Some pill vitamins are also easily dissolvable within the body, eliminating absorption problems. You can also read the label to find out if the vitamin is a quick dissolve tablet.

    Taste

    • Pill vitamins typically do not have any taste unless they are chewable or dissolvable vitamins. Vitamin companies usually don't add flavor to pill form vitamins because these vitamins are just meant to be swallowed immediately. However, liquid vitamins are consumed like a beverage so these vitamins almost always have some type of flavor added to them. This is very commonly seen with children's liquid vitamins because kids are very picky about what they eat, and most kids tend to favor sweet things.

    Added Ingredients

    • Also keep in mind that both pill and liquid vitamins usually contain added ingredients. Some pill vitamins have gelatin, fillers, binders, gluten or other substances. These ingredients are usually added to keep the vitamins together in a tiny pill. In addition, liquid vitamins may also contain preservatives, alcohol, sugar or sythetic sweeteners.
