Probiotic Dangers

Probiotics are microscopic organisms that, when administered in the correct amounts, provide health benefits to the consumers. Yogurt is the host to many probiotics and though probiotics are germs, they fall under the classification of "friendly germs." Probiotics contain lactobacilli and bifodobacteria. Aside from probiotic use as a nutritional supplement, probiotics are also used in facial creams.

  1. History

    • The use of probiotics dates as far back as the late 1800s. At that time, many diseases and illnesses were attributed to waste buildup in the body that leaked into the blood stream. The use of probiotics to ferment meat in order to protect it from spoiling during packaging, led to the decision to use probiotics in the human body to eat away body waste left to build up.

    Common Side Effects

    • Probiotics tend to cause users to have excessive sinus drainage, headaches, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Gas is a very common side effect of consuming probiotics in food and as a nutritional supplement. These side effects typically disappear in a few days and are caused by the probiotics expulsion of toxins from the body. Controlling and limiting dosages in the first few days of use prevents many of these side effects from occurring.

    Short-Term Benefits

    • In Dr. Robert O. Young D. Sc.'s blog, the doctor tells of the short-term benefits of the consumption of probiotics. Dr. Young reminds us that probiotics are meant to help us digest those foods that are hard for our bodies to digest, such as meat and other animal protein. Probiotics are also marketed to assist in regulating the digestive tract.

    Long-Term Dangers

    • Dr. Young goes on to advise that though probiotics offer many short-term benefits, they also create many long-term dangers from prolonged use. Not only do probiotics help bodies to break up animal meats and proteins, but also the protein and meat in our own bodies. Probiotics break down our own healthy tissues and cells throughout our bodies from deterioration of the tissue in our intestines to the cease of our bodies' production of stem cells. Probiotics also destroy healthy white blood cells and red cells, leading to many blood disorders and a lowered immune system.

    Warnings

    • To prevent the dangerous effects of probiotics, it is important to control the consumption of foods containing probiotics. Probiotics are found in numerous foods that use the process of fermentation during their production. This includes yogurt, pickles, and sauerkraut.

    Considerations

    • Dr. Young recommends, in his blog, to consume cold-pressed, whole leaf aloe-vera juice. The aloe-vera juice provides the benefits of probiotics, without the harmful effects of probiotics. Aloe-vera juice when cold-pressed from whole leaves helps to break up bowel blockage created by undigested foods.
