The Final Fantasy series has endured as the longest-running RPG franchise in video games. Final Fantasy X, the tenth game in the main iteration, continues that tradition beautifully by taking advantage of growing computer-generated image technologies to create an unparalleled visual feast. However, in the tradition of video games, the crash or freeze plagues this modern classic.
The most common type of freezing occurs because of an unreadable section of data on the game disc. This may be because of small particles blocking the read laser, pits and grooves in the game disc or even sometimes cracks. First, remove any disrupting dust or other particles with an optical quality cleaning cloth.
If your disc surface is actually damaged, you may need to have it professionally repaired. Some online sites such as Skippy Disc specialize in repairing scratched discs. Some home-use products are also available at game outlets and other specialty stores.
If your disc is free of physical flaws, there may be a problem with your lens. A specialty lens cleaner similar to a DVD lens cleaner may be necessary. Be sure that the cleaner you use is intended for your system, as incompatible cleaning discs can make the problem much worse.
Should both the disc and lens be clean, there may have been an encoding error when the disc was manufactured. A good way to check this is to get another copy of the game disc, either from a game rental shop or from a friend who also owns the game. Place the disc in your drive, load up the game and play through to where your game freezes. If you do not experience the problem, there's a problem with your disc. In this event, it is best to contact the particular vendor of your copy of the game. Also, check the game website for contact information.
Video Game Lag
As a graphically intense game, it can be rather taxing on a system to display video, especially when its full motion video cut scene. Some minor freezing may occur when the game needs to load one up. For this reason it is important to wait a little while after it "freezes" because it may simply be a video lag and can be waited out.
