Low Stress & High Paying Careers

The majority of high paying careers are associated with a high-stress environment (e.g., lawyer, judge, doctor). However, there are several high paying careers that seem to have slipped under the stress radar. With various careers, you can get paid generously to do what you love and keep your sanity, too.

  1. Pharmacist

    • Pharmacists have the best of both worlds. A high paying career that is relatively low in stress. Pharmacists are responsible for administering medications to patients and assisting physicians in adequate prescription dosage. Illegible prescriptions and educating customers on the proper use of medication are likely the most frustrating obstacles a pharmacist must overcome in a day. Pharmacists with 5 to 9 years of experience earn generous salaries between $83,000 and $108,000; however, pharmacists with 20 years or more of experience can earn up to $120,000 per year.

    Physicist

    • Does experimenting with chemicals and unearthing groundbreaking discoveries regarding physical phenomena seem like a cool job? If so, consider becoming a physicist, because that's what they get paid to do. Physicists are paid an almost-six figure salary each year to perform scientific experiments using cool tools like mass spectrometers, lasers and betatrons. Physicists with 5 to 9 years of experience are paid in the range of $60,000 to $97,000. After 20 years in the industry, they're annual salary can shoot up to $136,000.

    Mathematician

    • Remember the math geek you made fun of in high school? Well, he may have worn dump overalls and too-big glasses, but he's now earning a six-figure salary. Mathematicians with 5 to 9 years of experience can expect to earn an annual salary ranging from $57,000 to $90,000 per year. However, mathematicians with 20 years of experience can earn up to $125,000 annually. Mathematicians are responsible for applying the fundamentals of mathematics towards solving problems in fields such as military planning, engineering and industrial management, among many other fields.

    Software Engineer

    • Software engineers are responsible for creating video games, computer games and cutting edge computer software among other technology. Becoming a software engineer is ideal for those who can no longer suppress the inner computer geek and math whiz. Software engineers with 5 to 9 years of experience are handsomely compensated with an annual salary ranging from $65,000 to $87,000. After 20 years as a software engineer, their income can increase up to $104,000 per year.

    College Professor

    • College professors are typically looked at as underappreciated and overworked. However, many people fail to see the benefits of this exciting profession. The true reward of being a college professor is seeing your students graduate into their professional careers and knowing you had a hand in the process. However, other bonuses of the job include a highly flexible schedule, a laid back work environment and a relaxed dress code (though many professors choose to dress in business attire, anyway.) College professors with 5 to 9 years of experience are paid an annual salary between $47,000 and $77,000. However, college professors with 20 years of more of experience can earn up to $120,000 per year.
