The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) is a public liberal arts college that offers a variety of bachelor degree programs. Programs include American Indian studies, communications, economics, sociology, history and political science. All prospective students applying to USAO must meet certain admission standards, submit an application and pay all fees before being admitted to their bachelor degree program of choice.

    High School Education Requirements

  1. All students applying to USAO must fulfill high school curriculum requirements. These requirements are normally met by students who complete grades nine through 12 at a high school in the United States.
As of 2009, the high school curriculum requirements included the completion of: four years of English, three years of mathematics, two years of laboratory science, three units of history and citizenship, three units of elective courses, and 15 other units required by the state. USAO also recommends an additional unit in mathematics, laboratory science and two units of speech or fine arts, and two units of a single foreign language to better prepare students for their bachelor's degree program.
  2. ACT and SAT Score Requirements

  3. USAO reviews a student's performance in required courses, class rank and results of standardized test scores to determine whether they meet performance standards. Acceptable scores on ACT and SAT tests for those applying for a bachelor's degree program at USAO vary by semester. As of 2009, the ACT and SAT requirement for first-time entering students was a minimum composite ACT score of 23 or 1,050 SAT score, or a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a minimum ACT score of 20 or 940 on the SAT.
  4. Special Admission Options

  5. Students who are not planning on pursuing a bachelor's degree program immediately after graduating from high school can apply for a bachelor's degree program with USAO's "Right-To-Try" provision. This allows students to apply for programs while they are still in high school, apply as a transfer student or apply for the summer provisional admission program. Students need to contact the Office of Admissions and the Registrar's office to determine whether they are eligible.
  6. Transfer Student Requirements

  7. USAO states that all transfer students must meet certain criteria before their application for a bachelor's degree program can be processed. As of 2009, transfer students can either meet USAO's high school education requirements and standardized test performance requirements and have earned at least a graduation GPA of 2.0 on all college work completed or have meet USAO's high school education requirements and standardized test performance requirements and have earned at least a GPA of 2.0 on 24 attempted trimester credit hours of college work, or have earned at least an overall 2.0 GPA on at least 24 attempted trimester credit hours of college work and completed USAO's curricular requirements before transferring.
Students must meet with an adviser at the USAO Admission's Office for the most current information on transferring.
  8. International Student Requirements

  9. International students must go through a different application process. As of 2009, the USAO requires international students applying for a bachelor's degree program to fulfill the following requirements: complete, sign and submit an application with a $15 nonrefundable fee; be a graduate of a secondary school or college with a GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale; earn a combined SAT score of at least 1,050 or an ACT composite score of 23; fulfill their native country's requirements for entering the United States as a student; have a TOEFL score of at least 500 or higher on the paper version or 173 on the computer-based version; provide transcripts in English from secondary schools and colleges attended; provide proof of financial ability to travel from home to college; and show any proof of medical insurance.
