A variety of extended-release dosages are available for your pain management plan. Each dosage of Kadian is a different color so you can easily recognize that you have been given the correct prescription by your pharmacist. Additionally, each color-coded capsule has the dosage and the name Kadian written in black directly on the capsule. There are seven doses: 10 mg/white, 20 mg/yellow, 30mg/purple, 50 mg/blue, 60 mg/pink, 80 mg/orange and 100 mg/green.

How to Take Kadian
-
It is imperative to take Kadian according to your doctor's instructions. It is a Schedule II controlled substance because it is an opioid agonist. Patients, if it is not carefully managed, can form addictions to this medication. Additionally, because of Kadian's extended-release properties, it is imperative to swallow the polymer-coated pellets inside the capsule whole and not crush or chew them. For those patients who have trouble swallowing pills, sprinkling the contents of the capsule on apple sauce is recommended.
Missed Kadian Dosage
-
Although it is important to stay on the time schedule prescribed by your doctor, it may happen that you miss your dose. If you are not in pain and it is just about time for your next dosage, it is probably best to skip the missed capsule. However, patients who take Kadian once a day should take their dosage as soon as they realize they have missed it and then adjust their dosage schedule to the new time.
Medications that Interact with Kadian
-
Kadian has the potential to interact with other prescription and over-the-counter medications. According, to the Health Services of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 44 percent of Americans are taking at least one medication. Use caution if you are drinking alcohol, use antidepressants, antipsychotics, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cimetidine, diuretics, muscle relaxants, MAOI's, or other opiate and narcotics.
