What Is a Wave Board?

A wave board is similar to a skateboard. A wave board has two wheels instead of the four wheels of a traditional skateboard. Unlike a traditional skateboard, a wave board has two decks connected by a torsion bar that allows each deck to rotate independently for propulsion and turning.

  1. How to Ride

    • Place your front foot on the front deck of the wave board and push with your back foot to gain some momentum. Place your back foot on the back deck and use a back-and-forth motion to create "S" turns. Once you get the hang of the movements you never have to take your feet off the board and can even propel the board uphill.

    Identification

    • The wave board is made by Street Skating. Street Skating describes their wave board in the following way, "The Wave combines the natural fluidity of surfing with the smooth maneuverability of snowboarding and skating into one new action board sport known as Street Skating."

    Types

    • Street Skating makes a few different versions of the basic wave board. The Wave is the original wave board and comes in many different colors. The Wave LX (Light Xtreme) has a wider platform and lighter design than the original Wave. The Ripple is a smaller board designed for smaller riders.

    Awards

    • The Ripple Board, a smaller version of the Wave Board, was recognized by Creative Child Magazine as Product of the Year. The Wave LX was named a winning product by Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA).

    Tips

    • The motion of the wave board is unique and will take some practice to master. The makers of the wave board offer instructional videos and pointers. Street Surfing promises that after a little practice you'll be proficient enough at the motion to ride the wave board. Don't forget to wear a helmet, especially as you're learning this new sport.
