The number of calories you burn in a hour of jogging depends on a variety of factors. The two major factors are your weight and your speed. As a general rule, you'll burn more calories per hour if you run faster and if you weigh more. You can also increase your calorie burn by increasing the intensity of your run, for instance by running uphill.
At an Easy Pace
Running at an easy pace of 5 mph, a 125-pound person burns 480 calories per hour. For a 155-pound person, this would burn 596 calories, and a 185-pound person would burn 710 calories. At a slightly faster speed of 5.2 mph, a 125-pound individual burns 540 calories per hour, a 155-pound person burns 670 calories and a 185-pound runner burns 800 calories.
Speeding Things Up
Running faster will burn more calories per hour. A 125-pound person will burn 600 calories in an hour at a speed of 6 mph. A 155-pound runner would burn 744 calories under the same conditions, and a 185-pound individual would burn 888 calories.
