New Experiences
-
While the final goal is to obtain a degree, the road to graduation is just as important as the diploma you receive. Studying in an advanced academic setting allows you to meet professors and other people with similar interests and differing perspectives. It is a formative time, when students can share ideas and learn more about themselves and the world they live in.
Special Training
-
Depending on your course of study, you are likely to receive some form of special training. Education is all about learning how to apply knowledge to real-life situations. No matter what your area of focus is, you need to acquire the skills to make a difference in the workplace after you graduate.

More Job Opportunities
-
Competition is fierce for jobs in today's slumping economy. Businesses are looking for ways to do more with less, and this means hiring the best employees. A degree is a concrete way of showing potential employers that you have the training and skills necessary to work efficiently and contribute to the company. Many positions require that all applicants have a degree from an institute or college, and a degree will make it easier for you to find jobs in your field of choice.
Higher Earnings
-
According to College Board, people who get a degree generally earn more money than those who do not. A report from the U.S. Census Bureau in 2007 suggests that people with a bachelor's degree earn an average of $20,000 more annually than people with only a high school diploma. You also stand to bring in more earnings with an associate's or a master's degree than with a high school diploma alone.
It should be noted that there are certainly cases in which people go on to be very successful straight out of high school, but such instances are fairly rare.
Personal Achievement
-
A degree is about more than just money and job opportunities; it is a symbol of personal achievement. Higher education helps round you out and adds to your knowledge and character. Obtaining a degree is a serious goal that signifies a great accomplishment in life.
