Herbs That Remove Wrinkles

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, but the appearance of wrinkles at an early age or because of sun damage can make you look and feel older than you really are. Many herbs have been used traditionally to reduce and remove wrinkles and restore a youthful appearance to the skin. Wrinkles and lines may not disappear overnight, but by using these natural substances as part of an overall wrinkle-fighting routine, you may be able to make some of your wrinkles fade into history.

  1. Function

    • The skin is under almost constant exposure to elements like the sun and pollutants like exhaust that can cause damage and premature aging. The herbs that are used to remove and reduce the wrinkles that are caused by this damage to the skin contain powerful plant compounds that are sometimes able to regenerate skin tissue and remove the damaged, wrinkled tissues.

    Ginseng

    • Ginseng is considered one of the top anti-aging and longevity herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. A study published in the Journal of Ginseng Research, Vol.32, No.1, 2008, examined the effects of ginseng extract on wrinkle formation in hairless mice. They found that potent antioxidant compounds called ginsenosides were able to significantly reverse UV-induced skin damage and wrinkling, and they also seemed to prevent water loss in the epidermis.

    Frankincense

    • Frankincense is a fragrant natural tree resin that has been used cosmetically for thousands of years and is believed to be Cleopatra's personal wrinkle-removing secret compound. According to the book "Aromatherapy: Essential Oils for vibrant Health and Beauty," frankincense not only has restorative, regenerative and rejuvenating effects on the skin, but it also smooths fine lines and wrinkles.

    Rosehip Seed Oil

    • Rose hips have long been used in alternative health systems as a natural source of Vitamin C, and now the oil from the seeds is becoming know as one of the best natural products for reducing an wrinkles. According to the book "375 Essential Oils and Hydrosols" by Jean Rose, published in 1999, rose hip seed oil contains a vitamin A acid that helps it to be especially useful for regenerating skin and treating scars, burns and wrinkles.

    Potential

    • Since many herbs have been used for removing wrinkles and fine lines, as well as other sign of premature aging throughout history, there is much potential for many more anti-wrinkle compounds than the ones above to be rediscovered.
