Previcox & Side Effects
Previcox is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) also called firocoxib. It is an effective fast-acting pain reliever used to treat canine osteoarthritis--arthritis in dogs. Approximately 20 percent of dogs have canine osteoarthritis, which is a painful, chronic degenerative joint disease. The process of aging is usually the cause of arthritis in dogs. A dog with osteoarthritis will avoid moving around and tend to lie around more than usual. On getting up he will appear stiff and may have difficulty walking. Activities like jumping, running and getting a car may become difficult along with a change in attitude and behavior.

Side Effects

Your pet may tolerate Previcox very well; however there are side effects to look out for such as, loss of appetite or increased appetite along with abdominal pain, tenderness and discomfort or vomiting and weight loss. There may be changes in the stool, including constipation, diarrhea or the passing of blood, which may look red or black and tarry. Contact the veterinarian immediately for advice on any of these symptoms.
Other Side Effects

Your pet may appear tired, lethargic or dizzy, and uncoordinated along with unusual behavior and seizures. There may be signs of a skin rash, itching or bruising and bleeding. In addition there may be a change in the color, frequency and smell of the urine or signs of jaundice such as yellowish discoloration of the skin, cornea (white of the eye) and gums. Contact the veterinarian immediately if your pet has any of these symptoms.
Allergic Reaction

An allergic reaction is a serious medical emergency. The symptoms include skin rash, with itching, redness and shedding or hives. In addition there may be swelling of the face, tongue and throat along with shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. There may also be coldness in the extremities, shock (circulation failure) and coma.
Precautions

Discuss your dog's medical history with the veterinarian including any other medications she may be taking. Drugs like aspirins and insulin and others may cause a drug interaction.
