Brain Fog Symptoms

Brain fog is a condition that affects many people at some point in their life. It is very common, although it is not a recognized medical condition. It is said to be a state of mental confusion and lack of clarity. Brain fog has many various symptoms that affect adults as well as children.

    • Brain fog may result in children doing poorly in school, poor self-esteem, delinquency and even crime. Adults and children may experience difficulty with short-term memory, learning new things and poor mental stamina. A common example of brain fog is forgetting where you put something, like your car keys or a book.

    Causes

    • There are many things that can contribute to brain fog. Some of the most noted causes are stress, aging, menopause, nutritional deficiencies and chronic diseases. Other underlying factors include but are not limited to neurotoxicity, medications, auto immune disorders and constipation.

    Dietary Changes

    • Diet is a huge constituent when it comes to your health. It affects many aspects of the human body and most likely has a role in the symptoms of brain fog as well. You can do to try to eliminate the effects of brain fog by changing your diet. It is important to eat a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids such as fish oil. It is also beneficial to eat a diet rich in green leafy vegetables. Eat a good amount of protein as well. Protein consists of amino acids that are necessary to help control brain function. Complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice and raw fruits and vegetables, are also very good because they increase blood sugar levels.

    Things to Avoid

    • There are many things that you should try to avoid to help reduce brain fog symptoms. Some of the most noted are foods that contain refined sugars such as Aspartame, simple carbohydrates like pasta and cookies, too much caffeine, foods with sodium nitrate such as hot dogs, and fish that live off the bottom of the ocean. Bottom-feeding fish are known to have toxic levels of mercury and other toxins within them.

    Other Recommendations

    • There are many other things besides making dietary changes that may help reduce brain fog. Setting specific bedtimes and wake times can be beneficial, because it will balance out your circadian rhythm (normal sleep cycle). This will ensure that you are getting an adequate amount of rest. Getting outdoors and obtaining vitamin D from the sun can also balance your circadium rhythm. A very popular way to reduce stress levels is through meditation and relaxation techniques. These are also beneficial in reducing brain fog.

    Medications

    • Due to the fact that brain fog is not a noted medical condition, no medications are available to treat brain fog.
