The MP3 audio format has become the standard for playing on portable mobile devices like iPods and Zunes. So it is preferable to have AIFF audio files converted into MP3 so that they can be played with the most ease on computers and portable devices. Converting AIIF to MP3 is a simple process that will in no way damage the original files and can be done in a similar fashion on a Mac as well as a PC using the iTunes software program.
The AIFF format was created by Apple for use with their Macintosh computers. It is an uncompressed format, which means that the audio is of high quality. On the down side, the files are quite large. AIFF files can be in monophonic or stereo and have the extension of .aif or .lef after the name. They play with similar ease on a PC as they do on a Mac.
Converting AIFF to MP3 allows it to be used on a wide range of devices, both in the home as well as on the go. While the MP3 audio format is in a compressed format, most users, especially those listening on portable players, will not find any negative impact. Converting the AIFF to MP3 also allows for more audio to be placed on a portable for listening to.
