Dry Nose Symptoms

Dry nose is a condition that occurs when there is not enough moisture in the nasal passage. The nasal passage dries out and begins to crack and peel inside. It can be very uncomfortable and painful in severe cases. Dry nose often causes irritation, cracking in the nasal passage and bleeding from the nose. Most people suffering from this condition feel constriction in the nose, and inhaling leaves them with inadequate oxygen levels that can lead to headaches and other body aches and pains. There are many different causes and treatments for dry nose to prevent the uncomfortable experience from taking a toll on your life.

  1. Symptoms

    • The symptoms of dry nose include a dry and itchy nasal passage. Swelling may also occur, restricting the air flow through the nose. Pain and headaches are also very common symptoms of dry nose, making it unbearable for many. Serious cases of dry nose also include dry mouth and throat as well as dry, itchy eyes.

    Environmental causes

    • Many environmental elements can be the cause of your dry nose condition. A combination of high heat and low humidity is the leading cause of dry nose because the nasal passage cannot absorb moisture from the air. Allergies to pollens, the weather and different foods can also bring on the symptoms of dry nose.

    Possible side effects

    • Dry nose also prevails when certain medications are being taken. Nasal sprays, antihistamines and bronchodilators all caution about dry nose symptoms, and should be avoided if you have a past history of nose bleeds or irritations. These drugs cause severe breaking and scabbing within the nose. If you have a past history of dry nose you should seek medical advice before taking any over-the-counter drugs to prevent any more occurrences.

    Treatment

    • Dry nose can be prevented and avoided by drinking lots of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Apply skin moisturizer or lotion around the affected area to prevent it from getting worse and to keep it moisturized. Try to keep your nose covered when it is very hot and dry outside, and avoid all medications with the ingredient atropine, as it worsens most dry nose symptoms. Avoid breathing through your nose when it is hot and dry outside to try and prevent the irritation.

    Natural Remedies

    • You can purchase remedies for dry nose at any grocery or drug store. Healthy oils like sesame oil are safe to apply to the inside of the nose to keep it moisturized. Nasal flushing with saline water helps to clear out and clean the naval passage, making it easier to breathe comfortably.

If you are experiencing dry nose take the steps to prevent and treat it. There are many proven ways to live your life without restriction.
