Sims 2 University Installation Problems

The Sims 2 University is an expansion pack for The Sims 2 game. Your simulated characters, called "sims," can now venture into the world of colleges and universities. They will struggle to balance education, finance and social activities and further enrich themselves within your simulated world. Users have experienced a number of problems when installing this expansion pack, some of which are fairly easily remedied.

  1. User Modifications

    • Whenever you attempt to install an expansion for a multicomponent game such as The Sims, you will want to make sure you have removed any user modifications. These modifications, or "mods," are additional content created by others to enhance your game play. They range from simple "no cd" fixes to expansive additions of content. Each will have its own uninstall interface and you should follow those instructions. If you have replaced the original .exe file with a modified one, this will need to be reverted as well.

    Disk Errors

    • One of the most common problems with installation is because of faulty or damaged disks. Clean any debris or fingerprints from your disks with a soft cloth. Wipe from the center to the edge in a straight fashion to avoid additional damage. Use a commercial repair tool to cover any scratches on the readable surface. These are available at most department and computer stores. If the disk is still unable to be read or missing files errors are given, contact the number for manufacturer support in the back of your The Sims 2: University manual for a replacement.

    Drive Errors

    • Drive errors may occur when you insert the first disk. These are normally caused by outdated drivers for your CD or DVD drives. Update your drivers to the latest version available from the manufacturer or a driver directory such as NoDevice.com. If your disk drive shows signs of dust or is having trouble reading other disks, use a cleaning disk to clear any debris and clean the optical lens.

    Double Deluxe

    • The Double Deluxe edition of The Sims comes with two expansions preinstalled. This can cause problems with installation of University if the game does not have the latest patch installed. Download the patch from the Official EA Patch Page to update your existing installation. You should now be able to install University with your Double Deluxe edition. If problems persist, it is likely related to another issue and not caused by the Double Deluxe version.

    Clean Reinstallation

    • When all else fails, you can use The Sims 2 uninstall feature to perform a clean installation. Uninstall the game and choose not to delete your saved files and directories. This will let you keep all of your sims and in-game information when reinstalling. Reinstall The Sims 2 and patch with the latest version of the game. Then install all of your expansion packs, including University. A clean reinstall will take some time as the game with expansions is quite large, but it may be your only recourse if your attempted expansions are not working.
