Bangkok, Thailand Hotel Deals
Bangkok, Thailand is one of the busiest travel hubs in Asia, and therefore one of the best places to get a great deal on a hotel room. With a little bit of homework, you can almost always find great hotel rooms there at prices far less than you'd pay for the same quality at other destinations.

The Facts
-
A city of more than 8 million people, Bangkok is a hot spot for business, shopping and tourism---a modern city set in a nation rich in history, providing a fascinating blend of modern and ancient. This makes Bangkok's hotel industry highly competitive, frequently offering deep discounts on their rooms. It is not unusual to find four- and five-star hotels offering rooms below $100 per night---sometimes significantly lower.
Time Frame
-
According to professionaltravelguide.com, November to February is the best time to go to Bangkok, when the weather is driest and coolest. Not surprisingly, this is also Bangkok's peak travel season, so expect hotel rates to be a bit higher during these months. However, because Bangkok is such a hub for tourism and business year-round, competitive deals are almost always available, even at luxury hotels. You might pay $100 per night for a five-star hotel room in December, but pay $72 for the same room in September. Either way, it is still a great deal when similar hotel rooms can list for hundreds of dollars per night.

Features
-
Of course, hotel amenities vary according to the star rating; the special offers vary as well. Some hotel deals require a minimum stay; some are strictly last-minute deals. Sometimes breakfast is included in the price. Occasionally the low price only applies to the "economy" rooms in the hotel, although the upgraded rooms are still usually reasonably priced. Don't just look at the price when seeking a deal; be sure you're getting the features you want at that price. Chances are some hotel in Bangkok is offering exactly what you want.
Considerations
-
You might save even more money on your hotel room by booking your flight or car rental, or both, at the same time; by booking at the last minute (not recommended at peak season), or by using a travel agent. Research your options to see what will save you the most money.
The best deals don't often appear on major travel sites like Travelocity or Orbitz. Try going to websites that focus on international or Asian travel, some of which are listed below. If you aren't finding any four-star hotel rooms under $120 per night, you're on the wrong site. Shop around---there is really no reason for you to pay that much for a nice room in Bangkok.
Some sites quote room rates in the Thai baht (THB) rather than the U.S. dollar (USD), so be aware of current exchange rates so you don't end up paying more than you realized. Also, traffic is constantly heavy in Bangkok, so if you have a flight to catch, find out hotel's distance from the airport before deciding.
Competition tends to keep standards high, but there are a few dives in town. Always check the hotel's star rating and read customer reviews before deciding. Travel sites usually provide this information.
Warning
-
On December 31, 2006, there were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in public areas of Bangkok. Although it has been relatively quiet there since then, it is still a good idea to be alert and check terrorist threat alerts before traveling internationally. The U.S. Embassy at Bangkok encourages American citizens traveling abroad to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to receive the latest travel safety information; the U.S. State Department offers this registration free on its website.
